New Englands Girls Recap

With the defending champion Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk, ME) opting not to compete in the 75th annual New England XC Championships, the race for the title was wide open. Last year’s runner-up Emily Durgin (Cheverus), was looking to win the title that eluded her by just two seconds as a freshman. The skies opened up as the girl’s race was just about to get started, the rain was pouring down, not what you call great XC weather. Click headline to read more...

Class C Girls recap

(Waynflete freshman Martha Veroneau won the Class C girls state title, leading her team to the state title)

As the day grew older and the sun started to set, the temperatures started to drop, but that didn’t prevent a great team race from happening. With only 5 scoring teams at the starting line, as Greenville didn’t make the trip to Twin Brook as they had a state championship soccer game the same day, the eventual winner wouldn’t be known until long after the last athlete crossed the finish line. As with the girls race, the boys race saw the defending individual champion Alex Moser (York) trying to repeat and the Greely Rangers trying to 3-peat for the team title. If last week’s Western Maine regional was any indication Moser was going to have his hands full in trying to repeat, and Greely the heavy favorite, had to run without #4 Sam Humphries who was out with an illness.
